After six years of dedicated leadership at the helm of the Wakatipu Community Foundation (WCF), Chair Raymond Key has announced his decision to step down from his role. Under his guidance, the foundation has flourished, evolving from its inception in 2018 to launching various initiatives that have supported the local community, such as the Greatest Needs Fund, and helped WCF be recognised as the chosen vehicle to create local legacies for the future benefit of our community.

Reflecting on his tenure, Raymond Key expressed, "It's been a tremendous pleasure helping set up the Foundation and build its reputation over the last six years. We have raised over $4 million and have in excess of $35 million pledged in Wills for the local community.  As the Foundation matures I feel it is the ideal time for fresh energy and leadership to take over. I will still be involved through my role as Chair of the national umbrella of Community Foundation of Aotearoa NZ, and as a trustee of WCF."

Stepping into the role vacated by Raymond Key is Stephen Brent, a local lawyer and Director of RVG Law, who has been a champion promoter of the Foundation since inception. Having previously served as one of the initial trustees, Stephen rejoined the Foundation last year after a brief hiatus. His extensive experience and commitment make him the ideal successor to lead the WCF into its next phase.

"The community foundation model makes so much sense. At it’s core is the aim to build and grow funds so that money is available to the local community forever," remarked Stephen Brent. "It's a privilege to be entrusted with this role, and I'm looking forward to taking the foundation on the next part of its journey."

As the new Chair, Stephen Brent has a clear plan for the future of the WCF. He stated, "We have a vision for the foundation to be a one billion dollar fund within 30 years, and I’m excited to guide the organisation to realise this goal. It’s a big one, but with the significant funds being transferred from the baby boomer generation in the next few decades, its entirely achievable.”

The Wakatipu Community Foundation expresses its gratitude to Raymond Key for his dedicated service and welcomes Steven Brent as the new Chair, confident in his ability to continue the Foundation's legacy of supporting the local community. The changeover will formally take place on 1 March.
